The synapse Flashcards
What is a synapse?
Information transmit between synapses.
Where the pre sends signal to the post synapse.
Two types of synapse
Electrical synapse
Chemical synapse
Electrical synapse
Pas electrical signals between pre- and post-synapses
The electrical current (action potential) opens Ion channels, and ionic current flows through connexon channels and sends signal over the gap junction.
Chemical synaps
AP arrives at pre-synapse and depolarization opens Ca2+ channels.
Influx of Ca2+ causes vesicles to fuse and transmitter is released into synaptic cleft (via. Exocytosis)
Binds to receptors on postsynaptic membrane and open/close channels
Postsynaptic current then excitatory or inhibitory the postsynaptic potential
Two types of synaptic vesicles
- Small clear with Neurotransmitters
- Larger ones with chemicals in them.
Neurotransmitters are mainly produced within
Pre Synapse
SNARE complex
