The Stomach Flashcards
label this stomach
what are the two stomach sphincters called?
inferior oesophageal sphincter
pyloric sphincter
what stimulates emptying of the stomach?
occurs when intragastric pressure overcomes the resistance of the pylorus.
describe the arterial supply of the stomach
all comes from coeliac trunk
- right gastric (comes from proper hepatic which comes from common hepatic).
- left gastric.
- right gastro-omental (comes from gastroduodenal artery which comes from common hepatic).
- left gastro-omental (branch of splenic artery).
describe the venous drainage of the stomach
the right and left gastric veins drain into the hepatic portal vein, the short gastric vein, left and right gastro-omental veins ultimately drain into the SMV.
Describe the innervation of the stomach
ANS:
- parasymoathetic nerve supply arises from anterior and posterior vagal trunks, derived from the vagus nerve.
- sympathetic nerve supply arises from the T6-T9 spinal cord segments and passes to the coeliac plexus via the greater splanchnic nerve.
what are the functions of the stomach?
- temporary store of ingested material.
- dissolve food particles and initiate digestive process.
- control delivery of contents to small intestine.
- sterilise ingested material.
- produce intrinsic factor (vitamin B12 absorption).
What is the histology of the stomach?
mucosa
submucosa
muscularis externa
serosa
what are the three layers of the stomach muscularis externa?
logitudinal outer layer
circular middle layer
oblique inner layer
what cells are present at the lumen surface of the stomach?
mucus neck
parietal
chief
what do mucus neck cells secrete?
mucus
what do parietal cells secrete?
HCL and IF
what do chief cells secrete?
pepsinogen
