nat turner

A

virginian slave, deeply religious, waiting for a sign and gets one, rebellion starts now and he frees slaves and kills white people, white militia respond and kill all except nat turner, the south is terrified, whites go on a killing spree, turner is captured and hung, the south blames : william garrison, david walker, and nat turner

if a slave escapes and are found they must be returned, in 1850 if a federal official doesn’t capture the slave they will get fined and arrested, slave catchers have immunity

A

secret routes, headed to north and canada, railroad links, harriet tubman, stations - safe homes and station master - people who own the house, conductor - who help actually move the slaves, stockholders - people who give money to help, you either make it or you die
