Who was Cortes?

A

first and most successful conquistador, landed in 1519, used natives against aztecs, went after tenochtitaln, the aztecs revolt and kick out cortes- he comes back and levels the city, montezuma does nothing because they think he is a gift from god, he sacrificed people in response

A

poor, illiterate, and illegitament - no money, set out in 1531, goes with balboa, attacked the incas, he captures the emperor and bribes the people to get gold, kills the emperor and goes conquering for gold

all empires were conquered, new settlements - st. augustine is the oldest, disease, slavery, 90% of native americans are dead, africa has a bunch of people - lets use them as slaves

end of 15th century, started by portugese, trade copper etc to get people, load up ships and go across the middle passage, the africans think the slavers are cannibals, slave ships are small with death everywhere and a horrible survival rate
