The sign test Flashcards
Sign test definition
Non- parametric test, used when you have nominal data and use a repeated measures design.
How to conduct sign test
- Find the number of the least occurring sign (S).
- Look at the critical values table and use S and 0.05 to find the critical value.
- S (calculated) must be equal to or less than the critical value to be significant.
Finding critical value (stated value)
(Find number of PPs - no change columns), then use that number and significance level 0.05 in the critical values table
Finding the calculated value (S) (value for sign)
Number of the least occurring sign
Type 1 error
False positive. REJECTING the null hypothesis, when there is a chance that the results were DUE TO CHANCE.
Type 2 error
False negative. ACCEPTING the null hypothesis, when there’s a chance the results WERE SIGNIFICANT.
Significant difference
Can accept the hypothesis, reject null hypothesis
