Empiricism and objectivity

- Empirical methods must be OBJECTIVE – we should be able to measure an individual’s characteristics in a way that is independent of bias
- Objectivity is harder to achieve because psychology deals with living matter rather than inert.

- To make it replicable variables should be OPERATIONALISED
- Uses rigorous and specific methods
- Detailed reports so others can repeat
