The Scientific Method 8 Flashcards
Steps
Observe- make observations
Question- Ask a question or identify a problem
Research- search for exsisting answers or solutions
Hypothesize- formulate hypothesize
Experiment- design and perform an experiment
Test Hypothesize- accept or reject
Draw Conclusions- make conclusions based on hypothesize
Report- share your results
Scientific Method
is a process used in order to answer questions and solve problems
Observations
-any information you gather through your senses
-mamy forms
-must be accurate and recorded
-many standard tools are used
Questions
-what are you proving, discovering, or learning about?
-conducting research helps for better understand the topic from discover of others
Hypothesis
-proposed answer to questions; an explantion based on prior research and observations
-must be testable
-must have predictions
Conduct an Experiment
-test hypothesis by conducting an experiment
-requires planning
-controlled experiment
Independent
is the cause; independent of other variables
dependent
is the effect; depends on changes in the independent
constants
items that are not the focus of the study
-collecting the data esstential
Analyze results
-after experiment, data must be organized
Results
-valid (measure what needed to be measured)
-reliable (consistent)
Draw Conclusions
-does it support your hypothesis?
-accept or reject your hypothesis based on results
Communicate Results
-others can repeat
-scientific explanation can be formed
-scientific explanation can be strengthed or be changed
