the relationship of the belief system or ideology to ethical issues in society Flashcards
Buddhism is not as strict as other religions when it comes to
ethical issues (probably because there is no god like Christianity and Islam)
e.g. relating to sex?
rather than saying sex within marriage is acceptable but outside it is not, the Buddhist approach is whether it’s a loving act and proper to the relationship.
their approach to sex cam be applied to?
homosexual love in some Buddhist forms. to medical ethics (e.g. stem cell research, euthanasia - although many Buddhist still regard as killing and therefore wrong).
why sexual issues?
the main Buddhist ethic is that one not engage in sexual misconduct, as that would fracture the Four Noble Truth and Eightfold Path directions towards restraints
hence, overall what is shown about Buddhism towards ethical issues?
there appears to be a greater openness to negotiation on ethical issues than can be found in other religions
