who is Guatama?
known as the ‘buddha’, born in Nepalese Ganges region around 560BCE, to a high cast Hindu father.
what did Guatama grow up surrounded by?
by wealth and opulence
what did Buddha become disenchanted by?
with the opulent, luxurious life so joined a Hindu monastery that specialised in ‘self-denial’, ie deny yourself everything except the basics in life (opposite of his family life)
what did he find about Hindu?
found this life of self-denial disenchanting as well
what did he after disenchantment with Hindu?
went on a path known as the Buddhist ‘Middle Way’ which captures the central beliefs of Buddhism, expressed through the ‘Four Noble Truths’ and the ‘Eightfold Path’.
what did these truths promise?
promised an individual enlightenment, or Nirvanna without having to go through reincarnations that characterise Hindu beliefs

the ‘Three Jewells of Buddhism’ i.e. (central beliefs).
