Clergymen sold indulgences to people claiming if money was givin tithe church your time in purgatory would decrease

Purgatory was believed as a lace where sinners who were nor bad enough for hell would go to be punished before heaven

The bible was translated from Latin on to the vernacular(language of the people ) literate people could read the bible and make their own interpretation
The invention of the printing press (Gutenberg) meant that new ideas could spread very quickly across Europe- people decided for themselves that the reform was needed
