The rate of transpiration Flashcards
Name the four things transpiration rate is affected by
light intensity
temperature
air flow
humidity
What is the importance of light intensity and what happens
brighter light = higher rate
stomata closes when dark - photosynthesis can’t happen - little water escaped
What is the importance of temperature and what happens
warmer = faster transpiration
warm - more energy in particles to evaporate out of the stomata
What is the importance of air flow and what happens
better air flow = high rate
poor air flow = water vapour doesn’t move away - high concentration of water particles both sides so diffusion doesn’t happen
good air flow = no vapour - low concentration of water - diffusion happens quickly
What is the importance of humidity and what happens
drier air - faster rate
humid - same as poor air flow
