Microscopy Flashcards
1
Q
What do microscopes allow us to do
A
See things we can’t see with the naked eye
2
Q
Name and describe the two types of microscopes
A
Light - use light and lenses to form an image of a specimen and magnify if - make individual cells and subcellular cells visable
Electron - use electrons - higher magnification - higher resolution - mitochondria, chloroplasts, ribosomes and plasmids
3
Q
What is the equation for magnification
A
image size / real size
4
Q
Give instructions on how to prepare your slide
A
- add a drop of water to the middle of the slide
- using tweezers place the thing your studying onto the water
- add a drop of iodine solution
- place a cover strip onto the slide without getting any air bubbles
5
Q
Name the parts of a light microscope
A
Eyepiece Coarse adjustment knob Fine adjustment knob Light Stage High and low power objective lenses
