Where are congenital auricular pits and cysts found?
Triangular area anterior to ear.
What are congenital auricular pits/cysts?
Remnant of 1st phar. groove
Cause of branchial/lateral cervical sinus?
Persistent 2nd groove/pouches
Cause of a Branchial fistula?
Persistence of 2nd groove, ruptured closing plate
What are branchial vestiges?
Cartilaginous/Bony remnants that fail to degenerate
Describe 1st Arch Syndrome
Abnormal development of 1st arch derivatives
Describe DiGeorge Syndrome
Failure of 3rd/4th pouches –> no thymus or parathyroid glands
Cause of accessory thymic tissue?
Improper descent of thymus
Cause of ectopic parathyroid glands?
IMproper migration or division of the original glands.

Along the anterior neck or tongue.
Concerns with a thyroglossal duct/cyst?
Nothing really unless they get infected.
Where can an ectopic thyroid gland be found?
Along the course of the thyroglossal duct.
What tissue type is the most common in ectopic thyroid?
Lingual thyroid tissue.
What is thyroid hemiagenesis?
Unilateral failure of thyroid formation.
