The Nervous System Flashcards
What is the order in which the CNS orders a response?
Stimulus, Receptor, Sensory Neurone, CNS, Motor Neurone, Effector, Response
What is an effector?
A muscle or gland
What is the connection between two neurones called?
A synapse
Why is a reflex faster than normal responses?
Because you do not have to spend time thinking about the response
How do reflexes protect the eye?
The light receptors in the eye detect the light and sends a message along the sensory neurone to the brain. It then travels along a relay neurone to a motor neuron which then makes the iris contract.
What is the role of neurotransmitters in the transmission of nervous impulses?
The neurotransmitters set off a new electrical signal in the next neurone after transferring the signal.
