Q

how is the central nervous system (CNS) able to bring very rapid responses?

A

because neurones transmit information using high speed electrical impulses

Q

what are the SIX steps of the reflex arc?

A
  1. neurones go through spinal cord or unconsious part of brain
  2. when a stimulus is detected by receptors, an impulse is sent along a sensory neurones

3.in the CNS the sensory neurone passes on the message to relay neurone

  1. relay neurones relay the impulse to a motor neurone
  2. impulse travels along the motor neurone to the effector
  3. the muscle then contracts and moves
