osmoregulation Flashcards
1
Q
structure and function of kidneys
A
2 bean shaped organs that filter blood
2
Q
structure of ureter
A
tube connecting the kidney to the bladder
3
Q
structure of bladder
A
organ that stores urine
4
Q
structure and function of urethra
A
tube that connects to the exterior where urine is released
5
Q
what is urea
A
toxic waste product of protien breakdown
6
Q
3 things the kidney does
A
- removal of urea
- adjusment of salt levels in blood
- adjusment of water content in blood
7
Q
what is the filtration unit in the kidneys called?
A
nephron
8
Q
ultra-filtration process
A
- blood comes from renal artery, flow through glomrulus (bundle of capillaries)
- bc of high pressure water, ions, urea, glucose get squeezed out of blood and into bowmans capsule
- glomorulus and bowmans capsule act as filters so big molucules like protien and blood cells arent squeezed out
9
Q
filtered liquid =
A
glomerular filtrate
10
Q
how does glucose get reabsorpped?
A
glucose -> proximal convulted tubule-> respiration
11
Q
reabosprtion of water?
A
suffiecent water -> collecting duct -> blood stream
