Monotheistic
- The most important belief is that there is one God
THIS IS THE TAWHID - He is the universal God of all humanity
Immanence
- God is always close
“we are closer to him than jugular vein.” - QUR’AN 50:16
Transcendence
- God is beyond everything and therefore not limited by rules
Qualities of Allah
- Omnipotence = all powerful
- Omniscient = all knowing; nothing can be hidden from him
- Beneficent = always kind, he loves us
- Merciful = always fair, forgives our sins
- Judge = on the last day Allah will be our judge
- Creator = he is the beginning and cause of why everything exists
Al Fatihah
- It is the first Surah
- Many Muslims recite this from memory i their daily prayers
“It is you we worship and you we ask for help…guide us to the straight path.” - Quran 1:1-7
The 99 names of Allah
- Allah is beyond all human understanding and therefore cannot be pictured as a physical being
- He lies at the centre of everything and god has many different names to describe his qualities
Names of Allah
Al Aziz - the almighty Al Ghaffer - the repeatedly forgiving Ar Rahim - the merciful As Sami - the all hearing Al Ali - the highest Al Aleem - the all knowing
Revelation through Prophets
- God does not directly communicate with humans, he uses special beings (angels)
- All Muslims have a duty to serve God, as he will show the right path to follow
- God has made known his special truth
- His perfect passage was completed and given to the Prophet Muhammad
Fitrah (Purity)
- When a child is born they are born in a state of Fitrah, an instinctive need for God
- It is the natural spirituality that connects us to our creator
The sin of Shirk
- God is divine and therefore no images of him can be depicted
- Muslims believe that there is only one God and therefore worshipping a drawing takes away the oneness of God
Taqwa
- It means having an awareness of God in every living aspect
- It is the desire for a personal relationship with God
- The Qur’an refers to it as the highest quality of Muslim
- Many use it as a shield against wrongdoing protecting them from evil
Hanifs
- Before Islamic Arabia there were people called Hanifs
- These people rejected idol worship and believed in one God and one superior being
- Many believe that Muhammad’s grandfather was a Hanif and this is how he learnt about fasting and praying alone
