Question 1

The Qur’an

Answer 1

• It consists of 114 chapters called Surah’s
• It is written in Arabic
• This is the final written word of God
• It is believed to be a sacred text and due to it being the word of God, free from mistakes and distortion
• God revealed his law in stages
• There were many books before given to prophets but were lost or corrupted, this is the final completion of God’s word

God’s perfect revelation

• The Qur’an is the direct word of God and it is therefore perfect
• All Muslims respect and honour the Qur’an, using it as a guide for their lives
• It teaches them how to worship, it is written in Arabic and Muslims learn it in Arabic while reciting sections in their daily prayers

• Sahifah = Scrolls of Ibrahim that are now lost = greatest prophet before Isa
• Tawrat = Revelation given to Musa = teaches unity of God, some teachings are missing
• Zabur = Given to Dawud = Role model that praises God
• Injil = Given to Isa = last revelation before Muhammad

These books are lost and the Qur’an is a mixture of all of them in its perfect form

The Hadith

• These are collections of thousands of Muhammad’s sayings
• They are not revelations as they are the word of a prophet and not God
• Muhammad’s life is considered a living Qur’an and shows its importance
