Beliefs on the Afterlife

• Human existence will continue after death, earthly life is a preparation for the next life
• We have been given freewill and God will judge us on the day of judgement
• Signs are that ; the mahdi will appear (second coming of Isa), a fake mahdi will appear trying to deceive peole, earthquakes, rejection of Islam, killing, dishonesty

• The dead will be raised from their graves and all people will stand before God
• Good deeds outweigh bad = book in right hand
• Niyyah is also counted
• Munkar and Nakir will test everyones faith by asking three questions only true Muslims can answer
• Angel Azrail will keep all the souls that died before judement day on Barzakh

• A place of joy and happiness
• People who pass over the Bridge of As-Sirat will go to heaven on the other side =
• Heaven is described as a real place but some take it metaphorically
• A place of contentment

• People who are bad will fall into hell when crossing the bridge of As-Sirat
• It is a place of torment and suffering, separation from God

Does Hell last forever?

• Hell is forever
  “whoever returns to - those are the companions of the fire; they will abide eternally therein.” - QUR’AN 2:275
• It is a temporary place
  “whoever has received an admonition from his Lord…and his affair rests with God.” - QUR’AN 2:275

Can a God of mercy condemn people to Hell?

• God has set fair rules and punishes those who are disobedient
  “so I have warned you of a fire…none will burn therein except the most wretched one.” - QUR’AN 92:14-16
• It is hard to believe that a God of mercy would send people to an eternity of suffering

Do Muslims only follow Shari’ah law as they are scared of God’s judgement?

• Some believe people are only obedient as they are fearful of the hell fire
• Faithful believers live happily according to the morals of the Qur’an

Is suffering really a test for the next life?

• Many would say that this life is just a test, if we pass we are worthy of paradise
• Non-religious - some are born better off than others so following these rules may be difficult
