The Model Gut Flashcards
1
Q
Similarities the model gut has to the digestive system
A
The food molecules are contained in a tube which wars are permeable for only small molecules. The food and the tube is a mixture of largest small molecules. The tube is surrounded by liquid that contains a low concentration of food molecules
2
Q
Limitations to the model gut
A
The whisking tubing membrane is smooth, however, a gut lining is folded with a larger surface area for its length. A real gut is surrounded by blood flowing vessels that take away the soluble products of digestion. The whisking tubing does not move the food around by muscular contractions.
