The proccess by which proffessionals learn during education and training the attitudes and behaviours neccessary to assume their proffesional roles, and coperate with the norms of the proffessional group
What are the main critques of the proffessions?
Proffessions are protected monopolies, claims of virtue are self servicing and strategic and proffessionals seek to optimise their own intrests
What are some of the challenges for proffessionalism for doctors?
Doctors are discouraged from raising concerns on one another, rules on proffessional properity
What are some of the reasons for facing the medical proffessionals tribunial service?
Mis conduct, poor conduct, a criminal conviction or caution wihthin the uk
What are some of the actions that may be taken by the MPTS?
Agree undertakings with the doctor, place conditions on the registratiuon, suspend their regristation or remove them from the medical register
What are the aims of revalidation?
Aims to assure patients, maintains and improves practice, provides support to doctors in keeping their rpactice up to date, identifies concerns about doctors at an early stage, and encourages patient feedback, and acts as a driver for improving clincal goverance
What does revalidation involve?
A local evaluation of doctors practise through annual evaluations, and maintain a portfolio of supprot in infomraiton to bring in appraisals as a basis for discusiion, and have a positive recommendation from a responsible officer
What are some of the threats to the clinical automony of doctors?
Proliferation of guidelines, inspection and monitoring, and pay fro performance, performance legume tables, reputation all sactions and electronic medical records associated with control and surveillance
What are some of the cocerns about the threats to the proffessionals?
Important professional discretion may be diminished, external accountability may have unintended consequences, and large administrative overhead, underming the roles of clincians as patients advocates, and si placement of professional goals in favour of organisational ones
