first reading
MPs are given the title of the bill and scheduled time for the second reading
second reading
a debate is held in the HOC on the principles of the bill after which a vote takes place to prefer the bill to a committee
committee stage
the bill is given to a public bill committee created specifically for that bill . back bench MPs in this committee scrutinise the details of the bill and suggest amendments
report stage
the bill is passed back to the House of Commons and a debate takes place with amendments being voted upon
third reading
a final debate takes place on the whole bill as it has been finalised with a vote ending the reading
after the third reading the bill is sent too…
HOL for consideration if the HOL makes changes to a bill put forward by the commons the commons must consider and approve nay changes as they are the elected house
once a bill has been fully approved by parliament it is sent to
the monarch for royal assent
