features of the uk constitution Flashcards
uncodified
then uk constitution is not written down in none single document but is drawn from different sources . in a country with a codified constitution , the constitution would be written in a single document .
unentrenched
there is no protection offered for the uk constitution such as a formal amendment process . instead it can be changed easily . ie a single act of parliament , in a country with an entrenched constitution the amendment process wold b e formalised , ie in america amendments to constitution need congressional and state approval
unitary
poltical power inn the uk all resides in one place , in parliament . this means that parliament is sovereign , while parliament might give power out to devolved bodies it remains the ultimate decision maker. in counties with a codified constitution , usually the constitution itself is sovereign
twin pilars
because of the uncodified and unentrenched nature of the uk constitution it is based on twin pillars , which underpin the uk constitution .
- rule of law
- parliament is sovereign
