The Knee Flashcards
Anterior knee pain differential diagnosis (non-traumatic)
Patellofemoral pain
Patella tendinopathy
Fat pad impingement
OA
Bursitis
Traumatic knee injury differential diagnosis (Anterior)
ACL
PCL
Meniscus (medial and lateral)
LCL differential diagnosis
Lateral meniscus
ITB syndrome
Other traumatic injury: ACL, PCL
Patella dislocation
Is the medial or lateral meniscus more prone to injury?
Medial
Role of the meniscus
Increase stability, distribute axial load and absorb shock
Tibia - flexion –> Rolls and Slides?
Backwards (posteriorly)
RBF (Rolls & slides backwards in flexion)
Tibia - extension –> Rolls and slides?
Forward (anteriorly)
Femur - Extension? –> Rolls and slides?
Rolls forward (anteriorly) and slides backward
Femur- Flexion? –> Rolls and slides?
Rolls backward (posteriorly) & slides forward (anteriorly)
RBF (if it rolls back in flexion, must slide forward)
**Flip it for extension ie rolls forward in ext and slides back)
Tibia & femur externally rotate during….
Extension
Tibia & femur internally rotate during…
Flexion
- At around ….. degrees of flexion, the patella engages with the femoral trochlea, which is the grooved part of the femur where the patella rests
- As flexion continues to ….. degrees, the patella moves further into the trochlear groove
- When the knee is flexed at ….. degrees, the patella is deeply seated within the groove
- At …… degrees, the patella reaches its most distal (farthest) position on the femur.
20 Degrees
