The Federal Reserve Act of 1913
placed banks under control of Federal Reserve Board, system helps protect American economy from having too much money end up in the hands of one person/bank/region

Ways to give every American a fair chance to succeed. Included; policies to increase railroad regulation; Consumer protection laws; made distinctions between good and bad trusts.
Causes of the Great Depression
Installment buying, stock markets crash, unemployment rising, the dustbowl, overproduction, layoffs ,buying goods on credit
Dust Bowl
Region of the Great Plains that experienced a drought in 1930 lasting for a decade, leaving many farmers without work or substantial wages.
Bonus Army Incident
Group of WWI vets. that marched to D.C. in 1932 to demand the immediate payment of their government war bonuses in cash. Hoover used the military to disperse them and lost support from many voters
Hoovervilles
Great Depression shantytowns (ghettos), named after the president whom many blamed for their financial issues
The Grapes of Wrath
a novel by John Steinbeck that deals with a family of Oklahomans who leave the Dust Bowl for California in order to find work
The New Deal
Government sponsored programs created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to improve the economy and help reduce poverty and despair caused by the Great Depression.
The Social Security Act (SSA)
New Deal program designed by FDR to help elders during The Depression and continues today requiring a portion of each paycheck to be set aside as retirement income.
National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)
New Deal program, also known as the Wagner Act, that guarantees workers the right of collective bargaining, sets down rules to protect unions and organizers, and created the National Labor Relations Board to regulate management relations.
Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)
New Deal program to protect individual investors from stock fraud and bank failure
The Fair Labor Standards Act
New Deal program that regulates the minimum wage and standardizes the number of hours an employee is allowed to work
Roosevelt’s Court Packing Plan
Roosevelt’s plan to sneakily put more judges on the Supreme Court who would agree with his New Deal programs because many of the current judges were denying them. The public was freaked out by this because they saw it as a step towards dictatorship.
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and the Works Progress Administration (WPA)
Both New Deal programs developed to help unemployment by creating jobs
