Civil Rights Act 1964
This act made racial, religious, and sex discrimination by employers illegal and gave the government the power to enforce all laws governing civil rights, including desegregation of schools and public places.

Interstate Highway Act 1956
The interstate highway and the car industry made available large tracts of land outside the city limits. People began to move to the suburbs.

Oil Embargo 1973
The members of Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries or OPEC proclaimed that “in response to the U.S. decision to re-supply the Israeli military” during the Yom Kippur war, OPEC would limit or stop oil shipments to the United States and other countries if they continue to support Israel.
Camp David Accords
The first signed agreement between Israel and an Arab country, in which Egyptian president Anwar Sadat recognized Israel as a legitimate country.

Americans with Disabilities Act 1991
Passed by Congress in 1991, this act banned discrimination against the disabled in employment and mandated easy access to all public and commercial buildings.

The Patriot Act
Gives controversial new powers to the Justice Department in terms of domestic and international surveillance of American citizens and others within its jurisdiction.
September 11th 2001 Attacks
Terrorist attacks that were committed in the United States on September 11, 2001, coordinated to strike the areas of New York City and Washington, D.C.
