What was Ignatious?
It represented the prominence and power Peter had at Antioch. 110-115 CE. This is where they believe the gospel took place and was written.
What did Matthew try to do with the bible?
He tried to connect Jesus to the Hebrew bible. He tried to tell the story of Jesus to the people as easily as possible.
What is Midrash?
Midrash is a commentary or interpretation of the Hebrew scriptures.
What are the two types of Midrash?
- Halakah: commentary on the legal sections.
2. Haggadah: commentary on the non-legal sections of the bible.

Matthew’s Main Points of telling the stories are:
- Jesus has the credentials to be Israel’s true Messiah.
- Jesus is presented as the supreme Torah teacher.
- Instruct the community in the correct belief and behavior that will ensure Jesus’ approval when he returns.
Why does Matthew call Jesus the Messiah so much?
Because Matthew uses 90% of Mark so the text is very similar. Matthew follows the chronology of Mark but shortens everything up. Matthew will make sure that if Mark implied anything there is no confussion.
What is ekklesia?
It means The Church. Matthew is the only one that says church.
What is Matthew’s favorite saying?
Kingdom of Heaven.
What is the Cosmic Significance?
This is where the world has to take notice of Jesus and earthquakes, storms, rain, etc. will happen.
What is Matthew’s literary device?
“All of this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet.”
What does Emmanuel mean?
God is with us. (this is what Joseph was told to name Jesus.)
