What was the situation like whilst the tsar was at war
The tsar had very little support even his brorther Grand Duke Michael wanted the tsar to step down
In early 1917 there was lots of people striking
Nichlas’ presencea the front meant that he did not know much about what was going on petrograd
Many soliders lost faith in him
General Krymov was prepared to support the duma to help get rid of the tsarina
Rodzianko tried to warn the tsar but he didnt listen

Strikes at Putilov for higher wages
What happend on 23rd february?
International womens day - large numbers of women joined in strikes (100,000)
- down with hunger - bread for the workers
What happned on the 25th of february?
300.000 workers on strike.
No newspaper was printed
No public transport
Police showed empathy for strikers
What events happned on the 27th february?
Most garrisons joined in dtrikes and mutiny
Duma dissolved but 12 members set up the provisional commitee
Alexander kerensky demanded the tsar to abdicate
First meeting of the petreograd soviet - workers, deupties, sailors and soldiers
The provisional comitee and th epetrgrad soviet was running the country
What happened on the 28th february?
Soviet issue the newpaper ‘izvetsiya’ and declare their intention to get rid of old gov sytem
What hapened on the 2nd of march?
Nicholas returned to petrograd and is met at pskov where generals tell him he is no lomger needed in the capital. He abdicates and leaves grand duke michael as his succesor but he declined -

The provisional comitee beomes the provisional government and run the country

Petrograd soviet issues soviet order number one, which transfers all authority from army officers to the elected representatives of the soldier
