The Endocrine System And Homeostasis Flashcards
What does the Endocrine system
The glands and organs that make hormones and release them directly into the blood so they can travel to tissues and organs all over the body
What does the endocrine system do with hormones?
The endocrine uses chemicals (hormones) and release them slowly
What does the nervous system do with hormones?
They use electrical impulses and they are fast acting hormones
What are the endocrine glands?
Pineal (releases melatonin to sleep), parathyroid, thyroid, kidney, adrenal, pancreas, male and female parts
What does the Hypothalamus do?
It maintains homestasis by: controlling blood pressure and temperature balance, it also controls many hormones. It belongs to the endocrine system.
What does the Pituitary Gland do?
It maintains homeostasis by releasing chemicals into the bloodstream and act on other glands, it belongs to the endocrine system.
What does the heart do for homeostasis?
The heart delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells to help and it belongs to the circulatory system.
What does the lungs do to help with homeostasis?
They control the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide. It belongs to the respiratory system.
What does the liver do to help with homeostasis?
The liver regulates glucose storage, produces bile for small intestine and detoxify the body, it belongs to digestive system.
What do the muscles do to help with homeostasis?
They regulate movement which includes generating heat, moving internal body parts. It belongs to the muscle system.
What does the kidney do to help with homeostasis?
The kidney removes extra water if needed to maintain water levels in your blood. It belongs to the urinal system.
What does the pancreas do to maintain homeostasis?
Through various hormones it maintains blood glucose levels in the digestive system.
