Sensory Organs Flashcards
What are sensory organs?
They a re receptors and detect changes in the environment and send messages tot he brain.
What are the types of receptors?
Photoreceptors (light)
Thermoreceptors (temp)
Mechanorecptors (touch)
Chemoreceptors (chemicals)
What is the autonomic nervous system?
It controls aspects of the body that we do not consciously control. There are 2 parts sympathetic and parasympathetic.
What things does the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system do?
- dilates pupils
- inhibits slaivation
- relaxes bronchi
- relaxes bladder
- accelerates heart
- inhibits digestive activity
- contracts rectum
What things does the parasympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system do?
- constricts pupils
-stimulates salivation - constricts bronchi
- contracts bladder
- inhibits heart
- stimulates digestive activity
- relaxes rectum
What does the stimuli do?
It receives all responses and regulates them by feedback loops. These responses are so are body remains in homeostasis.
What is Vasodilation?
Blood vessels close to the skin open. This allows more heat to be released from the blood across the skin.
What is Vasoconstriction?
When these blood vessels constrict and stop the loss of heat across the skin?
