Q

What are the effects of an earthquake?

A

Its all random! Many earthquakes happen every year and most that we cant detect, only instruments like the Richter Scale. But the ones that we can detect can be quite catastrophic. On the Mercalli Scale some of the effects of an earthquake are heavy structural damage like big buildings falling over or collapsing from the powerful shockwaves to total destruction which is basically impossible to happen. If that did happen then the area hit would completely destroyed and nothing would remain and everyone within the proximity of the inner shockwaves would be dead.

Q

How can you prepare for earthquakes?

A

In Japan, they are in the middle of 3 tectonic plates which gives them a lot of earthquakes and tsunamis, and this increases the chance of danger so to prevent the effects of powerful earthquakes is having evacuation areas in case of an earthquake and increased the structure of their building so when an earthquake hits, the buildings will move with the earthquake instead of standing still.
