Ocean Trenches Flashcards
What are Ocean Trenches?
They are the deepest parts of the ocean floor.
Ocean Trenches are hemispheric-scale long but narrow topographic depressions of the sea floor.
Oceanic trenches are a distinctive morphological feature of convergent plate boundaries, along which lithospheric plates move towards each other at rates that vary from a few mm to over ten cm per year.
Where are Ocean Trenches located?
They are embedded into the Earth’s mantle, so the magma keeps on going a round in a loop
Where is the deepest part of the ocean?
Mariana trench.
Where are Ocean Trenches formed?
Formed at subduction zones, where it is denser and where the continental crust goes under the oceanic crust.
