What is the epicentre?
A
The point on the surface directly above the focus, where the greatest force of the earthquake is felt.

A
The point at which the earthquake happens below the ground surface.

What are shock waves?
A
Radiate out in all directions, gradually becoming less strong as they get further away from the epicentre.

What are primary effects?
A
Immediate damage caused by the earthquake, such as collapsing buildings, roads and bridges.

A
After-effects, such as fires, tsunamis, landslides and disease.
