The Circulatory and Respiratory Systems Flashcards
What are veins?
Veins are blood vessels that carry deoxygenated blood.
What are arteries?
Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood.
What are capillaries?
Capillaries are tiny, thin-walled blood vessels that allow the exchange of gases and nutrients between the blood and the cells. They are located between the veins and the arteries.
What do red blood cells do?
Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to the tissues.
What do white blood cells do?
White blood cells protect the body from agents of disease in the bloodstream.
What is hemoglobin?
Hemoglobin is the protein in the blood that gives it its red color.
What are bronchial tubes?
Bronchial tubes are tubes in the lungs that carry air.
Where are the bronchioles?
The bronchioles are at the end of the bronchial tubes.
What are Alveoli?
Alveoli are the little sacs at the end of the bronchioles where blood picks up oxygen.
