Ignatius Loyola thinks it’s his responsibility to take this group of clergies and militarize in a sense to go spread the word of the catholic church. Catholic missionaries take root. See them get on the exploration boats and spreads Catholicism in the new world

Ursulines want to educate women and Teresa of Avila weaves in mystical ideas of the supernatural and the idea of miracles to help encourage the catholic faith. Willing to make small changes

Big meeting where the cardinals all gathered and make some changes. Look at some of the abuses and make movements towards making it better. But they double down on limiting indulgences, but not moving away from clerical celibacy. You see only a little amount of change

The pope gets more power and authority and becomes a campaign of investigations of not following through with conversion or not being a catholic, there could be torture, forced into conversion, many are executed.

Charles V- HRE
Hapsburg. Lutheran group of princes who call themselves the Schmalkaldic League. Charles V stanch catholic, wanting to hold Catholicism in the HRE, and squashing Lutheranism. The peace of Augsburg decides that the Lutheran princes are allowed to choose and calms tensions, Charles V loses power

Phillip II- Spain
Married to Mary the 1st of England. Trying to expand Spanish influence by taking the Netherlands. Takes Spanish provinces and keeps them catholic and continues to try to push his influence onto England. Sends his armada, and is defeated by Elizabeth I.
