The Big Bang Flashcards
what is the Big Bang?
The Big Bang is an explosion that is thought to have been responsible for the creation of the universe around 13billion years ago.
What did Stephen Hawking say about the big bang?
“the universe can and will create itself from nothing”
How could the Big Bang theory effect someone’s life?
this might lead people with a belief in God to lose faith because they do not need the Bible to explain how the world began, as science proves
What do Catholics believe about the Big Bang?
They accept scientific theories like the Big Bang and believe that the Big Bang “does not contradict the intervention of a divine creator but depends on it” as Pope Francis has said
Why do Catholics believe in the Big Bang?
•they believe God created the matter and caused the conditions to enable the explosion which therefore proves God’s intervention in the Big Bang and that he created the universe was still created ex nihilo
•In Genesis 13 it says “let there be light” which some some Catholics believe is a direct reference to the Big Bang
•The big bang would have had to be at exactly the right micro second, if it had been too soon or late stars could not have formed and only an omniscient being like God would have the ability to do this.
How may a Catholic’s belief in the Big Bang impact their lives?
They may be open to more scientific theories like evolution while still believing that God is an omnipotent and omniscient creator
