•The Catholic Church is against abortion in all circumstances as they believe that God created humans in imago dei therefore the foetus created in the image of God has a right to life which only God can take away.
•They believe life begins at conception so abortion is a great moral evil as it is taking away a human life
what does the Bible say about abortion?
•”let us make mankind in our image”
•”do not murder”
•”before i formed you in the womb i knew you” meaning God has a plan for every human life even while is its is still in it’s mothers womb
what do humanists believe about abortion?
•they believe in personal autonomy of the body meaning a women should have control over her own body
•they believe life does not begin at conception so terminating a foetus is not killing another human but rather terminating a foetus when otherwise they would be unloved and unwanted
why do humanists believe in abortion?
•a popular humanist slogan is “my body my choice”
What do Jews believe about abortion (pro-life)?
Some Jews believe only God can take a life. An important belief is pikuah nefesh - the saving of life and since the 10 commandments forbids Jews to kill some might extend this rule to the unborn
What do other Christians believe about abortion?
•The Church of England like the Catholic Church disagrees with abortion due to the sanctity of life
•However sometimes in rare situations they see abortion as the “lesser of two evils” and believe as the bible says to “love thy neighbour” the mother should be looked at as the neighbour and sometimes an abortion is best for the mother
•they encourage better sex education and for people to consider adopting
