Why did Khrushchev want the western allies out of berlin
Many thousands had escaped from east to west germany,Many of these being well educated people,The communist countries needed these people to progress.If all these well educated people were choosing the west over the east it makes the east look inferior

He announced that Berlin belonged to east germany and gave the USA an ultimatum of 6 months to withdraw troops

They held multiple conferences however even though Khrushchev removed his demand he placed it back in once the new president Kenedy came in

It stopped east germans from escaping to the west,Khrushchev looked strong but didn’t have to fight a war,The wall became a powerful symbol of communist strength,However it also could show how the west was better as they had to build a wall to stop people crossing
