The Art of Self Discovery Flashcards
Nathaniel gets you to see the beautiful, and capable Huma being, that you already know you are
Nathaniel Branden’s job is to get people to discover that they know very many things that they do not know that they know, to get them to find out that they can do all kinds of things that they do know that they know they can do.
The voyage within
The journey of the internal self is just as exciting and engaging as the journey and discovery of things in the outside world.
Sentence Completion How to
When doing sentence completion, it is best when done in front of people, a person or a large group. When you are by yourself, it is preferred that you write out the answers. You can also, say it in front of the mirror (with a recorder), record your voice, or type out your responses.
**(INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS WORKBOOK)The sentence completion work in this book is to be done, one chapter at a time. You do the WHOLE section at one time. You also do them in order. Give yourself ample time to reflect on the questions and the results that you get afterwards. Complete, minimum, 12 endings. Move quickly through each section, so that you get, authentic, spontaneous responses. Eventually you will outpace your internal censor and tap in to your raw, unguarded, true feelings. At the end of each section, pause, and reflect on all that you have just done. Do only ONE section at a time. Write/type out your thoughts during your reflection of your responses. **DO NOT GO LIGHT, OR SKIP on this reflection time, set aside a lot of free time; it is essential that you internalize the material in the section before you move on to the next one (and so that you can process and integrate the information, in order to bring about understanding, resolution, and change! Perhaps, even paradigm shift/s). If you do get stuck, and your mind goes blank, just invent something, no matter how outlandish it may be. Do not give up. Keep doing it over and over and soon, you will get good at tapping into your subconscious (which is a good and essential skill to have! You will be aware of your subconscious!). Keep practicing :D. No distractions or interruptions must occur while you are doing sentence completion, **SET ASIDE this valuable time. Allow yourself to go into a trance like state while doing this work, this is optimal. Analyze, AFTER the exercise is finished. Keep your completions relatively short.
The subconscious mind is always in the here and now
**The subconscious mind has no sense of time, it is always in the constant present. THIS IS WHY YOU MUST GO MAD, AND IMPRESS AS MUUUCH AS YOU WANT INTO IT. IT CAN TAKE ON ANYTHING. For example, if I store in my subconscious mind that I have good genes, my body never matures, and that I look like I am still 18, I will have that! It will not obey time, logic, etc. :D
Subselves
We carry our child self inside of us, as an aspect of who we are. If the child self is not happy, it (which is you of course) can act out by leading us to inappropriate behavior at work, it wreaks havoc in our lives, or it can deny us the freedom of adult forms of playful enjoyment, etc. If you are aware of sub selves, then you can have better contact with yourself.**The most important sub self is, the teenage self. An unhappy teenage self can, talk back to authoritative figures like, your boss, they can have a teenager’s fear and uncertainty of the opposite sex, or turn any older person into a repressive parent figure type, against who feel we must rebel. Recognized and integrated, these selves represent magnificent resources that can enrich our lives.
Every part of your experience is right, wonderful and appropriate
When we are children, we are taught that to display anger, or anger with our parents, is bad and a sin. They will punish you, it is wrong, and you will be overpowered by their largeness in this situation. That is why, during therapy, often times, clients associate their anger toward loss of love (from the parent that would not love them if they got angry with them) or terrifying retaliation. Also, we were taught that GOOD PEOPLE never get angry or resentful, etc. In other words, that if you experience, strong emotions of the unpleasant kind, you are a BAD person. You may have been fooled to therefore conclude to oneself that your ego and self esteem is tied to being “above” anger or resentment. Today we know that, Honestly, everything about you is safe and, beautiful, perfect, and exactly what you need! The most normal, and best people, are free in every way (emotionally, physically, mentally, etc.). No part of your experience is ever “wrong”. Resentment is a normal emotional experience.Anger is self assertiveness, you are protecting or standing up for something you care about. It can be an unwillingness to be treated with disrespect or anything else that you dislike.
Freedom of being is the most important aspect
The tragedy is that some people are more concerned with not getting rejected or with feeling pain, so they repress or avoid their positive emotions. Vs. being concerned with feeling and experiencing joy or love.
-Our ability to be excited is to be protected and nurtured. Our sexuality is one of the most important things about us (be good at it and at making love like a lover and porn star).
What we have stored in our Subconscious mind, is our Destiny
Our self concept is out destiny. You consciously know how to program it now so you are writing your destiny :D. You’ve also had such WONDERFUL and powerful beliefs about yourself (this was WITHOUT ACCOMPLISHMENTS! SO IMAGINE WHEN YOU DO ACCOMPLISH THINGS) so, you should, step in to that! Self esteem does not have to do with how liked we are, wow! We can toss all of those superstitions out of the window. It has to do with how confident we feel in ourselves dealing with life. **HAPPINESS IS OUR NATURAL BIRTHRIGHT.
Positivity is all that is lasting and significant to reality
-Anything negative in life is temporary and to be fixed, the positive things in life are what have meaning, are lasting, and truly says something that you can believe in and rely on. The positive is permanent.
The way to Change
-Do the sentence completions, a few times per year, and you will find that your responses change each and every time because, you will change. Every time you do the sentence completions, you change. Nathaniel Branden has these experiences!
