Task performance
someone’s direct contribution to their job-related process
Contextual performance
the indirect contribution to the organization by improving behaviours
Formal appraisal discussion
an interview where the supervisir and employee review the appraisal and make plans to fix problems
Graphic rating scale
a scale that lists a number of traits and a range of performance for each, then rating the employee by identifying the score
Formal written warning
when employees performance is so bad that a written warning is required
Alternation ranking method
ranking employees from best to worst on a certain trait
Paired comparison method
ranking employees by making a chart of all the possible pairs and indicating which employee is better in the pair
Critical incident method
keeping a record of uncommonly good or undesirable examples of an employee
Management by objective
the employee is involved in goal setting process
Central tendency
a tendency to rate all employees in the middle of the scale
Strictness/ leniency
problem that occurs when a superviser tends to rate all employees either low or high rather than in the middle
Appraisal bias
tendency to let individual differences affect the rating that these employees receive
360- degree appraisal
an appraisal technique that uses multiple raters including peers
