test 7 bicarbonate / pH chart Flashcards

1
Q

What does the bicarbonate/pH chart show

A
  • the relationship between the pH and the bicarbonate ion concentration in the blood.
  • The relationship between the two is defined by the Henderson Hasselbalch
    equation

Q

Respiratory changes

A
  • hypoventilation pushes pCO2 isobar to the left (lower pH)

- hyperventilation pushes pCO2 isobar to the right (higher pH) =>blowing off more CO2
