Test 2 Flashcards
fetal heart rate acceleration
at 32 weeks: 15 bpm for 15 seconds for less than 2 minutes
before 32 weeks: 10 bpm for 10 seconds for less than 2 minutes
greater than 2 minutes but less than 10 minutes then it’s prolong acceleration
if it’s longer than 10 minutes it a change in baseline
variable deceleration
15 bpm for 15 seconds below baseline for less than 2 minute from onset to return to baseline
due to uterine contraction
Nadir
lowest part of deceleration
evaporation
moisture from skin and lungs
dry infant immediately after birth and wrap in warm blanket
change wet linen
convection
body heat to cooler air, avoid areas with drafts
keep body away from hallway doors or air conditioner. bathe in warm water
conduction
body heat to a cooler surface in direct contact
warm stethoscope and other instrument before use (hands)
radiation
body heat to a cooler object nearby
keep away from walls and windows
ambient temperature (room temperature)
72 F to 78 F (22-26 C)
bath water temperature
100.4 F
first stage of labor
longest
onset of labor to complete dilation
latent phase
intensity 0-3cm
active phase
intensity 4-7 cm
transition phase
intensity 8-10 cm
second stage of labor
full dilation and ends with birth
third stage of labor
between delivery of the baby and ends with the delivery of placenta
fourth stage of labor
starts with delivery of placenta and ends when mother and baby is stabilize
false labor contractions
-inconsistent
-walking/position change stop
-sensation felt in lower back or abdomen above the umbilicus
-ends with comfort measures
true labor contraction
-occur more frequently
-more powerful
-occur more times
-get closer together
-gets more itense with walking
-felt in lower back radiating to the lower portion of the abdomen
-persist in spite of the application of comfort measure
false cervix labor
-cervix soft
-no important changes in effacement or dilation
-no bloody show
-baby in posterior position
true cervic labor
-progress change
-softening
-effacement
-bloodyshow
-pain felt in lower back radiating to the lower portion of abdomen
-persist in spite of the application of comfort measures
false labor fetus
presenting part is not engaged in the pelvis
true labor fetus
-presenting part engage in pelvis
-increased ease of breathing (more room to breathe)
-presentig part presses downward and compresses the bladder=urinary frequency
-nausea
lightening
the 5 P
passenger– the fetus (size and position)
passageway- cervix
power– strength of contraction
person–competent and supportive team helping you have the baby
psychologic–mothers state of mind
