test 1 - stomach Flashcards
narrowing of the lumen of the pyloric region of the stomach
pyloric stenosis
congenital (hypertrophic) and acquired
caused by aspirin, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, chemotherapy, severe stress, shock
influenced by deranged mucosal protective mechanisms
acute gastritis
mucosal atrophy, epithelial metaplasia, erosions usually absent
causes: autoimmune (parietal cells) resulting in hypergastremia (drop in HCL), stimulates secretion of gastrin in attempt to restore HCL
occurs in fundus of stomach
chronic atrophic gastritis
H. pylori - major cause
hypertrophy of different cells in the stomach
hypertrophic gastropathy
hyperplasia of the mucus cells resulting in diarrhea
menetrier’s disease
hypertrophy of gastric glands oten resulting in multiple peptic ulcers
zollinger-ellison syndrome
acute defects of the gastric mucosa
- sever burns (curling ulcers, increase histamine)
acute gastric ulcerations
hyperacidity can result from an increase in parietal cells, increased acid stimulation, or an imparied inhibition of gastrin release
98% occur in duodenum/pyloric area near the lesser curvature
chronic peptic ulcers
leather bottle stomach and linitis plastica : benign or malignant tumor
malignant
