Definition: Health
Traditionally known as the ‘absence’ of disease
More recently, it has been described as a continuum of our total physical, social, and psychological status
Ranges from positive to negative
Definition: Physical Activity
Encompasses all leisure and non-leisure movements produced by the muscles - which result in an increase in energy expenditure above resting levels
Any behaviour that results in energy expenditure above 1.5 METs
Definition: Physical Fitness
A set of attributes/characteristics that people have that relates to the ability to perform physical activity with optimal efficiency
Def: Health related fitness
The ability to carry out daily tasks with vigorous and alertness, without undue fatigue, and with ample energy to pursue leisure time activities
Def: Performance Related Fitness
Physically training for a specific task (sport or job)
Def: Exercise
Planned, structured, repetitive bodily movement - primary objective is to improve or maintain physical fitness
Def: Physical Inactivity
An insufficient PA level to meet present PA recommendations
What are the main risks of Physical Inactivity?
Inactivity - 4th among top 5 causes of all cause mortality
Def: Sedentary Behaviour
Any waking activity with less than 1.5 METs expenditure
