How does the SCT propose people change and learn?
SCT proposes people learn through their experiences
What is reciprocal Determinism?
The dynamic interaction between an individual (who has a particular set of learned experiences), their environment (social context) and their behaviour (response to stimuli)
What are four constructs that affect one’s behaviour?
Self efficacy
Outcome expectations
Self regulation
Barriers and facilitators (e.g. social support)
What are the four sources of self efficacy?
Mastery (past experience)
Vicarious experience (watching others participate/watching tutorials
Social persuasion (peer pressure)
Emotional state ( mood and preconceived notions about a behaviour or action)
What is self regulation in regards to the SCT?
The ability to monitor and control one’s thoughts, actions and emotions
Avoiding temptation
What are some examples of self regulatory skills?
Setting goals
Self monitoring - logging exercises
Scheduling and planning
