Comma splice
When a comma is used in place of a period.
Two independent clauses cannot be joined with a comma. They need to be divided with a period.
If there were a conjunction after a comma, it would be correctly punctuated.
Indirect questions and question marks
Wrong:
I wonder if it will rain today?
Correct:
I wonder if it will rain today.
Maybe fine in less formal writing but usually corrected.
Questions reported in speech and punctuation
Reported speech is when a writer reports what a person said rather than using their exact words.
Ex/
George asked whether I really wanted to hurt him.
Is correctly punctuated, but if it were a direct quote
Ex/
“Do you really want to hurt me?” George asked.
The question mark would need to be inside the quotations.
