How to proofread scientific terms
• look up unfamiliar terms to make sure used correctly
• always check it’s used correctly if you are unsure
• Familiarize yourself with common technical terms
Scientific context of significant
• Means the results of the study are not purely due to chance.
• Any study will have a significance level
• the Greek letter alpha (a) is used which is the statistical probability that the results of a test are reliable.
(e.g., a significance level of 0.05 means there is a a 95% chance the results are valid rather than accidental)

Scientific context of hypothesis
Means a proposal that can be tested.
It’s typically followed by a null hypothesis to cover the possibility that it’s untrue.

Means a set of explanatory ideas or principles that have been tested and substantiated.
A hypothesis supported by evidence.
