Terbutaline- class
Sympathomimetic bronchodilator
Terbutaline- MOA
Selective Beta 2 adrenergic agonist. Relaxes bronchial, vascular, and systemic smooth muscle. Suppresses preterm labor.
Terbutaline- indications
Bronchospasms. Preterm labor.
Terbutaline- contraindications
Hypersensitivity, tachyarrhytmias
Terbutaline-adverse reactions
Restlessness, apprehension, palpitations, tachycardia, chest pain, cough, nausea, facial flushing.
Terbutaline- drug interactions
Cardiovascular effects exacerbated by other sympathomimetics. MAOIs May potentiate arrhythmias. Beta blockers may antagonize.
Terbutaline-dosage
Adult: 0.25 mg SC, may repeat in 15-30 mins. Max dose of 0.5 mg in 4 hours.
Ped: not for under 12 years. 0.01 mg/kg dose SC. Repeat 15-20 minutes PRN to maximum dose of 0.25 mg
Terbutaline-Duration of action
Onset: 15-30 mins
Peak: Variable
Duration: 1.5 to 4 hours
Terbutaline- special considerations
Use with caution in patients with underlying cardiovascular disease or hypertension
Terbutaline- pregnancy category
C
