Isoproterenol class
Sympathomimetic
Isoproterenol MOA
Beta- adrenergic receptor stimulator, increases chronotope, inotrope, dromotrope, and myocardial O2 consumption. Bronchodilator. Decreases PVR, causes venous pooling.
Isoproterenol indications
Hemodynamically significant bradycardia refractory to atropine and transcutaneous pacing.
Isoproterenol contraindications
Hypersensitivity, AMI
Isoproterenol Adverse reactions
Palpitations, tachycardia angina, hypotension, headache, nervousness, tremors, may cause MI in elderly.
Isoproterenol dosage
Adult: 2-10 mcg/min IV/IO titrated to systolic blood pressure of 90 mm Hg or heart rate > 60 bpm (make by mixing 2 mg in 500 mL)
Pediatric: 0.1-1 mcg/min IV/IO (make by mixing 0.5 mg in 250 mL)
Isoproterenol Duration
Onset: 60-90 secs
Peak: 5 minutes
Duration: 1-2 hours
Isoproterenol special considerations
Should be nebulized for bronchodilation
