Explain a forest license
Quota based
Replaceable every 5 years for a max. of 15 years.
-Used to harvest the largest portion of the AAC
-Must produce 5 year forest dev. plans
-Must apply for cutting permits
-Pay stumpage
-awarded based on applications that demonstrate greatest social values, including manufacturing.
Explain a Tree Farm License
Area Based
25 year maximum term, replaceable every 5 years
-Must include 5 yr forest development plans
-Must present cutting permits
-Must pay stumpage on crown timber
-annual rent of 45 cents per m3/yr
Explain a woodlot license
Area based
replaceable every 5 years for a 15 year max.
-Same as a TFL but designed to promote greater public involvement in forestry and bring more small private holdings under sustained yield.
-Awarded to applicant that demonstrates highest ability to manage land to a high level of stewardship while addressing social need and benefit
Timber Sales License
Up to ten year term
- Sold via the BCTS program
- Sec 20 TSLs go to highest bidder
- Sec 21 goes to the proposal that generates the highest value added from the manufacturing of the timber.

Explain Pulpwood Agreement
25 year term
- awarded to promote greater utilization of wood fiber in a specified area.
- Usually involves a commitment of building a processing plant
Explain Community Forest Agreement
Area based
initiated to promote greater involvement of communities in forest management.
-Similar conditions to TFLs
-5 year initial term followed by 25-99 year term
Explain Community Salvage License
Up to 5 years term
- Provides communities the rights to harvest timber that is dead,damaged diseased or left over from logging.
- Reforestation may be required

introduced in 2010
Area based
5 yr initial term, replaceable with long term (25-99yr)
-Must include management plan
Explain Road permit
Area based
1 yr term
issued for const. maintenance and use of logging roads .
Explain License to Cut
3 types
max 5 yr term
-issued to those who are in occupation of crown land for purposes other than harvesting but need to remove timber.
occupant license - for purpose other than resource exploit.
Master License - oil gas and mineral exploration
Forestry License to cut - for silvicultural and other forestry purposes other than harvesting timber
Whats a free use permit?
1 yr term
- issued for firewood, agricultural purpose timber, scientific research etc
- volume cant exceed 50m3
